Security and Virus Protection

What should I do if I have a virus on my laptop?
If you believe you have a virus on your computer, then you should take the following steps:
  1. Update your antivirus software with the latest virus definitions and run a virus scan of your hard drive. If you cannot update your antivirus software, visit http://housecall.trendmicro.com to have your computer scanned for viruses.

  2. If a virus is detected on your system, and it is unable to be removed by the antivirus software, call Law Computing Support at x7425 or Tech Central at x4357 for assistance with cleaning the virus.

  3. Go to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com to download and install the latest updates to Microsoft Windows. These updates will patch vulnerabilities that may allow computers running Windows to fall victim to viruses or other malicious intent. You should check this site frequently to be sure that your system has the latest critical updates.
  4. You may find more detailed virus-cleaning information, such as instructions for manually clean viruses, at such websites as www.trendmicro.com/vinfo/.
  5. If you cannot access the network from on-campus, and you believe the virus may be the cause (e.g., you have received a popup message from Tech Central stating that your computer is infected and will be "blocked" from the network), please contact Law Computing Support at x7425 or Tech Central at x4357 for information regarding cleaning your computer and removing the block.
