Work Computer

Anti-virus software

New computer viruses come out every day, affecting documents, programs, email, and floppy disks.  Only an up-to-date virus scanner allows you to detect and clean these viruses before damage is done, or direct you to tools that can help you.  Virus hoaxes are common, as well. An up-to-date virus scanner can give you the peace of mind that your system is as well-protected as possible, despite what hoax email that you may receive.

Over 1,400 Pepperdine employees' Windows work computers now contain Trend Micro virus protection software.  Updates to the Trend software occur automatically at network logins so your protection remains up to date as long as you log on to the Pepperdine network now and then.  When a major new virus comes out, updates are also sent automatically across the network.  However, for most consistent results--particularly if you use a laptop and are not always connected to the network--you must log back into the Pepperdine network weekly or even daily to keep your scanner up-to-date.

You know you already have Trend software on your Windows computer if you see a small blue octagon with a wavy yellow line through it in the system tray in the lower right-hand corner of your computer screen.  If you see the blue octagon but the yellow line is broken, then Trend is protecting your computer, but you are not connected to the network, so Trend may not have installed the latest updates.

You can read more about how to protect yourself from viruses on the Security page.
