- Setting up a wireless card
-
(These instructions are for Windows XP only; for other cards, you must use the network
configuration instructions that came with your card. When your instructions ask, enter the name
of the network (also called the SSID) as: pepperdine)
- You should see one or more icons of a pair of
computers with a red "x" across them near the clock on your screen.

- Right-click that icon.
- Choose Open Network Connections from the menu.
- You should see an icon for "Local Area Connections"
with the name of your wireless card, somewhere in the list. Right-click that
icon. Choose Properties.
(Note: If you do not see an
icon with the name of your wireless card, try reinstalling your drivers.
Note: Updated Lucent Orinoco drivers may need to be downloaded from
the Internet if you use Windows XP.)
- Click the Wireless Networks tab.
- Click the Add button.
- Enter pepperdine (all lower-case) as the SSID. Make
sure all the other check boxes are not checked off. Press the
OK button.
- Press the OK button again.
- The icon on your system tray (next to the clock on your screen) should
now appear without the X (it may take several seconds to
update).
